Every year, youths from the Morristown United Methodist Church host a rummage sale. This year's sale, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 23, is the 20th anniversary of the event.

In order to make each sale a success, it takes a team of volunteers. The week before the sale, church members of all ages will put in long hours setting up, sorting and pricing the donations. This is a church-wide event. Everyone works hard, but has a lot of fun doing it.

Throughout the 20 years, we have sold everything from TVs and books to children’s toys and furniture. Over $80,000 has been raised so far, all going toward the youth mission trips.

“Ripples from our Rummage” support mission trips for junior high students, who go to Washington DC with The Center for Student Mission to spend a week helping at an inner city homeless shelter, delivering meals to shut-ins, and running a VBS program that can have anywhere from 50-100 children each day.

High school- and college-age students, and adults, spend a week in either Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia or West Virginia helping with the Appalachian Service Project.

This team repairs homes by putting on new roofs, updating bathrooms, fixing foundations, or putting on siding. The youth and adult volunteers give up a week of their summer vacation to help those in need.

The “Ripples” don’t stop there. Each year customers who shop at the sale will buy supplies for family members in other countries, or other mission projects. Items from the sale have gone to places like Ukraine, Africa, the Philippines, Colombia, and New Jersey inner-city missions. Some of the rummage items that we don’t sell will go to other charitable agencies.

Come visit us and support our cause.   THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!!!   For more information call the Church office at 973-538-2132.
